Sophie is a General Surgeon with clinical expertise in surgery for breast cancer and melanoma. She is a consultant surgeon at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Western Health. She undertook General Surgical training in New Zealand and Australia and then completed a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer centre. She has also obtained a Masters degree in Surgery through the University of Melbourne.
With the increasing complexity of cancer management, Sophie believes it is important to work together with other cancer specialists, such as medical and radiation oncologists, from initial diagnosis through treatment and beyond. This allows the treatment strategy to be tailored to an individual, their cancer and their circumstances. It also allows patients to
be involved in clinical trails where appropriate.
Sophie has an interest in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and works with a female reconstructive plastic surgeon in order to offer women the best possible cosmetic outcomes without compromising cancer care. She is involved with the Familial Cancer Centre at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre through the Risk Management Clinic. Sophie also has significant experience in benign breast disease, especially in young women.
She is passionate about exercise and its health benefits, especially in cancer patients and survivors, and has been involved in setting up exercise based cancer rehabilitation programmes in Melbourne.
Sophie is an independent specialist practitioner who provides her services from the Cancer Specialists premises.
