Hilmy is a Senior Staff Anaesthetist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. He has over 15 years experience as a Consultant Anaesthetist in Australia and New Zealand having completed his specialist advanced training in anaesthesia in Sri Lanka, the UK and New Zealand.
Hilmy has a special interest in the preparation of patients and their medical conditions prior to having major cancer surgery.
In this role, he leads the Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment Clinic (PAC) at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Hospital. He is also the Director of the Cardio Pulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) laboratory and Prehabilitation Program at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Hospital.
These tests and program are used to assess the risks patients face prior to surgery, and advice patients on whether exercise and other measures could be used to improve their fitness prior to surgery.
The program and the clinic that he leads were shortlisted Finalists for the Victorian Public Health Care awards in 2014 and awarded a certificate of special achievement.
Hilmy’s focus in clinical practice is to provide the highest standard of anaesthesia care for his patients.
This means applying the latest knowledge and skills available to make his patients’ surgical journey as safe and comfortable as possible, with care and compassion.
Hilmy is an independent anaesthetist that provides his services from the Cancer Specialists premises.
